A town in Florida has fined a man a total of $30,000 for not mowing his lawn for one month, while he was out of town settling his late mother's estate. Each day they added $500 to the bill for the grass being over 10 inches high.
The resident couldn't come up with the cash, so the city says it will foreclose on the home to collect the fine.
Ficken's Lawyer, Ari Bargil of the Institute for Justice, points out that the city had other options: "Hire a lawn service to come out and mow the grass, and send Jim a bill for 150 bucks, but they didn't do that."
