Well this is interesting.
Jason Newsted recently spoke to the Palm Beach Post and revealed that Alex Van Halen contacted him last year about a possible Van Halen tour.
The former Metallica bassist said that Alex had already tapped Joe Satriani, and he agreed to go to California to do some jamming with them to see if it felt right.
However, Newsted knew it would be impossible to do justice to Van Halen’s legacy. He said, “How could you? There’s nobody that can top it, so how do you show it honor? I didn’t want it to be viewed as a money grab. And then it kind of just all fizzled.”
No word on who would've handled vocals if it actually happened, but David Lee Roth did say he was in contact with Alex last year, too.
