Breaking News: Bridge Collapses Near Frick Park

UPDATE 11:30am: Frick Park is being officially closed for the time being due to safety precautions.

UPDATE 9:10am: UPMC released a statement after receiving two patients.

“As of 8:55 a.m., UPMC has received 2 adult patients determined to be in fair condition related to the reported bridge collapse in Frick Park.”

Additionally, Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) is being deployed to ensure there are no additional victims under the bridge.

UPDATE 8:40am: Mayor Ed Gainey, County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, and Chief Darryl Jones made a statement.

Three to four vehicles were on the bridge at the time of the collapse. There are reported TEN minor injuries. THREE injured were transported to the hospital via EMS.

Clarified that there were two passengers on the bus. The Driver and two Passengers.

There was a gas leak. It was turned off by People's Gas. It is not hazardous to anyone on the scene.

The bridge was last inspected in September of 2021.

UPDATE 8:18am: Via WPXI, A Port Authority bus with the driver and two passengers were last to be removed from the bridge. All three are fine. There are still no reported fatalities or serious injuries. Most reporting they are ok.

UPDATE 8:10am: According to WPXI, the collapse of the Fern Hollow Bridge in the area of South Braddock and Forbes avenues at the border of the Point Breeze neighborhood.

They are also reporting that officials said a "handful of people were on the bus and most have been rescued," and crews continue to work to get people out of the other vehicles.

Scott Harbaugh also shared some new photos from the scene on Twitter.

UPDATE 7:50am: Pittsburgh Public Safety shared an update on Twitter. They say, "a gas line has been cut. Updates on injuries will be provided once PIO is on scene. Red Cross has been contacted for victim assistance."

ORIGINAL STORY 7:30am: Emergency crews are on the scene of a bridge collapse in the area of Forbes and Braddock.

Pittsburgh Public Safety tweeted on Friday morning, "Please avoid the area of Forbes and Braddock for a confirmed bridge collapse. Fire, EMS, and Police responding. No reported injuries at this time."

They added that there is also a strong smell of natural gas in the area.

Authorities are asking that everyone avoid the area.

Currently, Forbes between S Dallas - S Braddock is closed, and S Braddock between Penn and Hutchinson is also closed.
