In 1995, Jerry died 8 days after his birthday, he had a heart attack trying to detox from his heroin addiction...he had been in bad shape for some time, going thru at least 2 interventions organized by his bandmates in the Grateful Dead and other family members......way over-weight, Jerry was diabetic and a heavy smoker too...he died on Aug. 9th 1995 at 53...youtube
