He may be the most ever celebrated pro sports groundskeeper: 94 year old George Toma has worked on the grass for every Super Bowl ever played, as well as being head groundskeeper for other pro sports teams. On the Tuesday before the big game, he told reporters the grass being laid down for this year's Super Bowl was "the second best grass we've ever had." But after the game, and the horrendously slick conditions the two teams were forced to lay on, Toma, who now says he's done working for the NFL, blasts NFL Field Director Ed Mangan, saying he overwatered the turf right before it was laid in State Farm Stadium, and it "never had sun on it again." "It had a rotten smell." Toma also says Mangan only sanded the turf once when he should have sanded it two or three times, and "he wouldn't listen to anybody." Here's more from Toma's ESPN interview, as well as comments from some of the players who were parts of Super Bowl LVII.
