Rolling Stone Magazine just posted its 200 greatest singers list, saying the criteria that was used to choose those who made the list was "originality, influence, the depth of an artist's catalog, and the breadth of their musical legacy." Unlike previous lists, where Rolling Stone had journalists and musicians choose, this list was made with current people who work or contribute to Rolling Stone only. The result: the old lists featured a lot of pop and country singers from the 1940's thru mostly the 1980's....this list has some of your favorite rock and pop, and country singers from the 1970s thru the 1990's, but how high up some of the greatest singers landed (or didn't land) will have the arguments flying...rockers fared pretty well, with Dio at 165, Axl Rose at 134, Ozzy at 112, and Freddie Mercury at number 14....not cracking the top 50: Michael Jackson.
