We know the one hit wonder hits from the 70's so well--after they originally hit the top of the Billboard charts, many live on in movie soundtracks, TV shows and commercials, but what happened to these bands and artists after they hit? After Norman Greenbaum went to number 3 with "Spirit in the Sky," but he never had another big hit, and eventually moved to northern California and became a chef....and closer to home, Wild Cherry hit #1 with "Play That Funky Music," and never made it to the top again, but lead singer Rob Parissi became a songwriter and producer for other artists, and we know that Donnie Iris, who spent time in Wild Cherry, has had a long, awesome career as a solo artist! Another guy who went onto other success as a lead singer: Paul Carrack, who as the lead singer of Ace, hit it big with the 70's one hit wonder "How Long," then played keyboards for Roxy Music, sang for Squeeze, then eventually for Mike and the Mechanics, and had solo projects as well...Stealer's Wheel had the one hit wonder "Stuck in the Middle," then lead singer Gerry Rafferty went onto be a bigtime solo artist....more about all those, plus what became of other artists who scored with those one hit wonders of the 1970's, here.
