Bands That Were Touted as "The Next Beatles"

Whether it was band managers and producers, music critics, or the bands themselves, one thing's for sure: just saying a band will be "The Next Beatles" doesn't make it so. And sometimes, it has the exact opposite effect of the hype. Some examples are innocent enough, like when the Beatles signed Badfinger to their new "Apple" label, and members of the Beatles would be involved in the Badfinger projects.
