How 100 of the Biggest Rock Bands Got Their Names

Some bands picked their names after much thought--many just saw the name on a machine or bus or elsewhere....some names were homages to other groups or musicians, or goofy words from when they were kids..What's a Foghat? Guitarist Dave Peverett says it was a made-up word from when he and his brother played when they were kids....Elton John is a blending of the names of two artists in his former band "Bluesology": Elton Dean and Long John Baldry..."Cheap Trick" came from bassist Tom Petersson seeing a Slade concert and remarking the band used every "cheap trick" in the book in their show....Blue Oyster Cult was a fictional group of aliens....see where the Doobie Brothers, the Eagles, the Cars, Cream and a bunch more got their names here.
