Queen drummer Roger Taylor has just released a new solo album "Outsider," and in talking about it, he says that Queen made a conscious decision never to do political songs, pretty much because Freddie Mercury wouldn't stand for it. Roger quotes Freddie as saying "I want to go round the world playing songs that people can enjoy. I'm not there to deliver a message," which Roger believes for the most part to be the right way to approach songwriting. He does have one or two songs on the new album that have a message, but he says he tries to "stay on the right side of the fine line between rock music and politics." He adds,"Freddie would never forgive me." Here's Roger Taylor, talking more about Queen and how he writes songs, both in the days of Queen, and for himself: and his solo work. More HERE.
