Art Rooney II Says Steelers Can't Bring Back Ben At His Current Salary

Steelers President Art Rooney II spoke to the media on Thursday afternoon, and Ben Roethlisberger was a hot topic.

According to Bob Labriola from Steelers.com on Twitter, Rooney said he would like to see Ben come back for another year, but there is a lot of work that needs to be done to make it happen.

Roethlisberger's $41.25 million cap hit is what needs worked out before they can move forward, so basically Ben would have to take a pay cut if he returns, which is no big secret.

Brooke Pryor from ESPN quoted Rooney as saying, "I don’t want to go too far down that road because we have a lot of discussions internally and with Ben. Salary cap and Ben’s contract is a big factor in where we go. That’s as much as I can say."

As for Mason Rudolph, Rooney said he is confident that he could be a starter in the league.

Rooney also talked about the running game and recognized that it's something that needs to be fixed.
