Beaver County Ice Arena Wins $100,000 in Renovations In ‘Renovate the Rink’ Contest
Beaver County Ice Arena is the winner of the “Renovate the Rink” contest, presented by the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pittsburgh Commercial Construction (PittComm).
The Beaver County rink will receive $100,000 in renovations after winning an online fan vote conducted in February at pittsburghpenguins.com.
The two other finalists were Belmont Complex in Armstrong and S&T Arena in Indiana.
“On behalf of the County Commissioners and the Department of Recreation & Tourism, we are extremely excited to have won the Pittsburgh Penguins/PittComm Renovate the Rink contest,” said Timothy Ishman, director of recreation and tourism for Beaver County. “Our county, organizations, clubs, family, friends and alumni far and wide got behind us in making this happen. The effort put forth to win the contest not only illustrates how much this rink means to the county and community, but accentuates that when asked Beaver County comes together and steps up to make the place we call home a better place to live, have fun and make memories.”
Ishman said it was a team effort and wanted to give the ice organizations and clubs a chance to provide input on improvements they thought were necessary. Areas that have been mentioned so far include upgrading locker rooms, the entrance area, and ADA improvements as a start. He said items would be prioritized and given to the Board of Commissioners for final approval.
More than 400 entries were received during the submission phase of the contest, and 16 rinks were nominated before the finalists were selected. Rinks in the following counties were eligible: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington and Westmoreland.
