The Steelers's Alejandro Villanueva chose to honor fallen Army hero SFC Alwyn Cashe by wearing his name on his helmet during the game against the Giants on Monday night.
According to the Military Times, SFC Alwyn C. Cashe died November 8, 2005 from wounds suffered "while on patrol in a Bradley Fight Vehicle when an IED detonated near his vehicle in Samarra, Iraq." Cashe was not initially hurt from the blast, but he suffered second and third degree burns over 70% of his body when he ran back into the vehicle to rescue his fellow soldiers who were trapped inside.
Cashe was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for his actions, and now, the Military Times says that after nearly 15 years, he might finally be awarded the Medal of Honor, a move that is being backed by the Pentagon.
