Clapping And Applause Being Replaced By Silent Jazz Hands at Oxford

Clapping is now being considered as an anxiety trigger, so the student union at the University of Oxford have voted to replaced applause with silent 'jazz hands' at council meetings. They are also lobbying the university to have jazz hands be used in place of applause at University and college level events.

According to OxfordStudent.com, "since loud noises, including whooping and traditional applause, are argued to present an access issue for some disabled students who have anxiety disorders, sensory sensitivity, and/or those who use hearing impairment aids."

Last year, Manchester Students Union made news headlines when they passed the same motion.
