The Bacon Brothers Talk New Single, Marriage, Show This Weekend at Jergel’s

The Bacon Brothers will be in town this weekend for a show at Jergel’s Rhythm Grill in Warrendale on Sunday night, August 25th.

It’s been a few years since they performed here in Pittsburgh, but Michael remembers the last time he was in town because he went to a Pitt football game. He is a big fan of the Panthers and loves coming to Pittsburgh!

When you have as much going on as these guys do, it can be hard to keep track of where you are at any given moment.

Kevin’s television series “City on a Hill” was just picked up for another season by Showtime, and Michael, an accomplished film/television composer, and is also an Associate Professor of Music teaching film scoring at Lehman College and Mannes College of Music. Kevin said he relies on iCal a lot to keep track of everything on his busy schedule, and they both gave major props to their management team for keeping things running like a well-oiled machine.

The Bacon Brothers released their ninth album in 2018, and this summer, they dropped a new single called “PLAY” that was written by Kevin. I asked him if “play” is the key to a successful marriage, and he admitted that the song is a bit tongue-in-cheek. But Kevin and his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, have been married for over 30 years, and people ask him all the time, “How have you stayed together so long?” He said that he doesn’t ever really have an answer, but most people will usually bring up the fact that marriage is a lot of work. To Kevin, it’s the opposite. He says for him, it’s more about play.

Both Kevin and Michael write songs for The Bacon Brothers, and each of them sing what they write, whether it’s in the studio or on stage. There is, however, one exception to that rule. Kevin wrote a song about Michael’s childhood called “Picker,” and Michael handles the vocals on that one.

We also talked about SixDegrees.org, and Kevin let us know about a new platform they are working on called Six Tag that plays off the six degrees of connectivity.

You can listen to the full interview below, and check out the music video for the new song as well! Get your tickets for the show at Jergel's on Sunday night HERE.
