This week the City of West Palm Beach launched a campaign to educate the public on train safety. You will start to see occasional police presence at railroad crossings, a social media campaign, blinking signs and sidewalk decals.
The move comes after 2 fatals incidents involving the new Brightline train, which reaches speeds of up to 80mph. That is a big difference from the speed of Tri-Rail trains, which some people have apparently gotten used to trying to "beat" at the railroad crossings when the safety arms are down.
Bottom line - you can't outrun a Brightline train, so don't even try it.
