Once news of the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash had spread thruout South Western Mississippi (Gillsburg), the night of Oct. 20th 1977, some 3000 curious area residents showed up at the crash site, and in the darkness and confusion they were stealing "jewlery, suitcases, band merchandise, purses, airplane seats, anything they could carry," remembers crash survivor Gene Odom, Skynyrd security chief. "They took my watch, my wallet, my ring and my money as I lay bleeding on the ground." The crash killed 6 and seriously injured 20.
