Peters Township's own John Henry Krueger can add "silver medalist" in front of his name, taking the U.S. teams first individual speed skating medal since 2010.
A crash in the final knocked out most of the field, leaving only Krueger and gold medalist Samuel Girard standing.
It was a tough road to even get to the 1000m short-track final, with disqualifications and more skater falls in the quarter and semi final heats. But, Krueger prevailed and stood on the podium for the silver. It was Team USA's ninth overall medal in the games.
