Minor League Hockey Jersey Retirement Fail

posted by Mike Steele -

Colin Chaulk played for the Fort Wayne Komets, through affiliations in four leagues: IHL, UHL, CHL, and ECHL. After 10 years, he decided to retire. The team wanted to honor his team loyalty by retiring his jersey. It came time for the ceremony, but there was just one problem.

The banner was hung upside down. So, instead of interrupting the ceremony to correct the problem, the team decided to raise it anyway, upside down. The team's GM wasn't happy at all:

"This is the most embarrassing thing I've ever been a part of in 27 years with the club", said David Franke.

Eventually, the banner was fixed. But for a brief time, #16 was retired rather than #91.
