Some of our favorite rockers tried to ditch the bands they got famous with, and the result was pretty much a bust...one of the most famous was Freddie Mercury ditching Queen when he was offered a giant record deal to go solo, and the resulting pop/dance album was panned and sold poorly. Tom Fogerty, the founder of CCR, was the leader of the band, which became a problem when little brother John Fogerty became the star of the band, and wanted to make the creative decisions for the band, sparking huge personal and legal feuds. Tom tried to strike out on his own, with little success. Guitarist Joe Perry left Aerosmith at the height of the band's drug addiction and disfunction in 1979, formed the Joe Perry Project, had some success with his first solo album, "Let the Music Do the Talkin'" but tanked solo after that, and came back to Aerosmith in 1984.
