Peter Frampton explained in a recent podcast what possessed him to agree to, then star as "Billy Shears" in the universally panned 1970's movie "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," based on the epic Beatles album of the same name...He contends that he was tricked by movie producer Robert Stigwood, who told him Paul McCartney was going to be in the film, so he signed on...When he went to the first meeting for the movie in Los Angeles, he found out McCartney wasn't in the movie. On the first day of shooting, he recalls thinking "Oh, this is a disaster." He adds he wanted to quit the film, but "I would have been sued to high hell." ...Even though other big name rockers and stars at the time were also in the cast: the Bee Gees, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, Steve Martin and more, "we all hated being in that movie."
