Of all the feuds between rock musicians and their record companies or management over the years, none is more nasty or famous than the battle between CCR's John Fogerty and Saul Zaentz, the guy who owned CCR's record company, Fantasy Records. Fogerty wanted out of his contract with Fantasy Records, and finally in 1980, he got out of the deal, but had to give up rights to his songs, even getting sued by Zaentz in 1985 for plagiarizing his own song, "Run Through the Jungle" when he recorded his solo song "The Old Man Down the Road." In 2004, Zaentz sold Fantasy Records to Concord, and Fogerty once again got royalty money for his Creedence songs. And now, he has struck a deal with Concord to be majority owner of the worldwide publishing rights to the CCR catalog, and admits "I'm really still in shock." For the dirty details, and what transpired over the years that Fogerty feuded with Zaentz, and with members of his band as well, check this out.
