Steve Jordan is not just the guy sitting in for the Stones' "No Filter" tour because of the death of drummer Charlie Watts; he is a highly sought after musician, producer, songwriter, and arranger, who first met Charlie Watts and hung out with him watching baseball playoffs in the dressing room when Jordan was the drummer for the Saturday Night Live band, and the Stones were performing on the show's season premiere in 1978.....in this interview, Jordan explains how he was eager to help fill in for the Stones' tour while Charlie recuperated from an "undisclosed illness" and told Charlie in a note he would "keep your seat warm" while Watts recuperated. When Charlie's condition made a turn for the worse, then he passed away, Steve Jordan recalls "complete and utter shock." He adds "I was crushed. The world was crushed." Here's more of his very cool interview, including his reverence for just what impact Charlie Watts had on the Stones with his drumming, and how Mick and Keith have brought him along in his role as tour drummer for the Stones.
