Tom Jones opened up about his departure from The Voice UK, claiming that it wasn’t his decision.
The legendary singer revealed in an Instagram post that he wouldn't return as a full-time coach for the show’s 15th season after spending 13 seasons in the role.
“To be clear, I did not want to leave The Voice as I love the show and really appreciate the audience,” Jones admitted.
According to the musician, ITV told him the decision was related to “a financial difficulty with insurance.” Jones also said he was offered a significantly reduced role that would allow him to make an appearance without serving as a coach from the beginning of the season.
“I’m not thrilled about that,” he continued. “There’s never a good time to fire an 86-year-old who’s still pretty good at his job.”
A spokesperson for the show confirmed to PEOPLE that Jones would no longer be a full-time coach but said discussions about his possible involvement in the upcoming season are continuing.
Jones first joined The Voice UK in 2012, when it premiered.
