Alex Van Halen has a new book coming out this coming Tuesday--"Brothers" is his story of he and his superstar guitarist brother Eddie, and their journey from childhood, thru becoming the biggest rock band in the world, and thru the band's first break-up in 1984...leading up to the book's release, Alex recently did an interview with Rolling Stone, in which he revealed he is still pissed that Eddie broke a band rule by doing the guest guitar solo on Michael Jackson's mega-hit "Beat It." The story goes that Eddie initially said no when being approached to do the solo, then after he was told he could change up the song a little, he said yes, and improvised two takes on the famous solo. Alex says it made him angry because it broke the band rule that no one was to do outside work, and also that Eddie played dumb when Alex confronted him about it, pretty much saying it was no big deal. Alex said in this recent interview: "You made the mistake! Fess up. Don't add insult to injury by acting stupid." After Eddie did the "Beat It" solo, David Lee Roth then started working on his solo album, and the band dissolved for the first time in 1984...here's more about the book, that incident, and more words from Alex: https://ultimateclassicrock.com/alex-van-halen-eddie-beat-it/
