David Crosby Reveals Collaboration With Steely Dan's Donald Fagen

David Crosby has unveiled a new single featuring lyrics written by Steely Dan's Donald Fagen.

Crosby teased "Rodriguez for a Night" during an interview last summer with Rolling Stone.

“I’m so honored [Fagen] gave us a set of words,” Crosby said at the time. “I’ve been asking him for a couple of years. He started to trust us, I think. It took a long time, but he gave us a set of words that are really wonderful, and we just wrote the shit out of them.”

Steely Dan is Croz's "favorite band in the world," and the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer eagerly evoked some of the hitmaking band's R&B swagger on "Rodriguez for a Night." You can listen to it via the player.

Crosby's new album, For Free, arrives July 23. Much of the record was cowritten by Crosby and his son, film composer James Raymond, who also produced the album.

"Can you imagine what it’s like to connect with your son and find out that he’s incredibly talented — a great composer, a great poet and a really fine songwriter and musician all around?” Crosby said in a statement. “We’re such good friends and we work so well together, and we’ll each go to any length to create the highest-quality songs we can."

The first single from the album, "River Rise," features vocals by Michael McDonald. The title track features singer-songwriter Sarah Jarosz.
