Legendary NFL coach Don Shula has passed away.
The Miami Dolphins released a statement on Monday morning that said, "Don Shula was the patriarch of the Miami Dolphins for 50 years. He brought the winning edge to our franchise and put the Dolphins and the city of Miami in the national sports scene. Our deepest thoughts and prayers go out to Mary Anne along with his children Dave, Donna, Sharon, Anne and Mike."
Shula, the winningest head coach in NFL history, led the Miami Dolphins to a perfect season in 1972 and was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1997. He also took the Dolphins to five Super Bowl appearances and won back to back titles in 1972 and 1973.
According to TMZ, a cause of death was not immediately known.
He was 90 years old.
