61-year-old Kelly Hansen has been the frontman for Foreigner ever since Lou Gramm left the group for the second time in 2005 over creative differences with band founder Mick Jones, and after 20 years, Hansen will bow out after the conclusion of Foreigner's current tour. Hansen says, with respect to trying to tackle the many high notes in the Foreigner song catalog, " it's extremely challenging for a rock tenor vocalist like myself to sing." "I don't know how much longer I can do that at the level I need to do." Both Hansen and band founder Mick Jones give their blessings to new lead singer Luis Maldonado, who has been guitarist for Foreigner since 2021, and assumed the vocals when Foreigner went to South and Latin America, and Hansen was denied entry. Mick Jones: "Luis was my choice as a guitarist and he has already shown us what he can do on lead vocals by fronting the band in South America to incredible reviews." Word is that Lou Gramm will also take the stage to do a few songs on select concert dates.
