Rock Stars Who Walked Away from It All

Superstar rock bands lose members for various reasons, but every once in a while, someone will leave a band just because. No incredible drama, not from being fired from the band, not from a power struggle, not for health reasons. They've just had enough. One of the first we all heard about: Bill Wyman, original bassist for the Rolling Stones, who left after 30 years, because he'd just had enough. He says "I had 30 great years with them." He appeared with the band for their 50th anniversary concert, but that was it. John Deacon, bassist for Queen, quit the band after Freddie Mercury died of AIDS. Although the other two surviving band members continue to play as Queen, Deacon came back for three charity events, but that was it. Izzy Stradlin of Guns n Roses got sober from his heroin addiction, then left the band relatively soon after, because he couldn't take their hard partying ways, and Axl Rose's ego and erratic behavior. Grace Slick of the Jefferson Airplane and Starship left the band in 1990, because she said her heart just wasn't in what the band was doing anymore: "There are just things you do when you're 25 you don't do when you're 70 because you look silly."
