Steelers President Art Rooney II announced Tuesday afternoon that the team will be retiring Franco Harris' number this season. The celebration will take place during the halftime of their week 16 game vs the raiders on December 24th, 2022.
"In my wildest dreams I never expected it. When Art mentioned it to me, I was blown away. It was a wild moment. It was unbelievable. It's quite an honor to be the first offensive player to have their number retired."
This year is the 50th Anniversary of the Immaculate Reception.
"It's hard to believe it's been 50 years. That's a long time. To have it alive, and still thrilling--it really says a lot and means a lot."
This is only the third time the team has retired a player's number.
