The Pittsburgh Police shared a warning that they've received reports of a recent phone scam targeting Pittsburgh residents using spoofed department phone numbers.
The warning advises that a scammer has been posing as a Zone 6 detective investigating a crime. The scammer then demands payments or gift cards to settle the warrants or charges.
"Pittsburgh Bureau of Police would like to remind everyone we will never ask for people to pay warrants and fines over the phone."
If you receive any suspicious calls, hang up and contact the police directly.
