"Enter Sandman" on Its 30th Birthday

On this day 30 years ago, Metallica released the first single from their huge "Black" album, "Enter Sandman," which took them into the rock star stratosphere....the whole album angered many of their core fans from their more thrash metal days, but with producer Bob Rock on board (he also did Motley Crue's "Dr. Feelgood" and the Cult's "Sonic Temple") the songs got tighter, shorter, and more commercially viable...plus people like me thought they kicked ass! The story goes guitarist Kirk Hammett came up with the famous riff for "Enter Sandman" in his bedroom in the middle of the night, brought it to the studio, and all the guys created the song around that guitar line.....here's more about all that from Kirk and drummer Lars Ulrich, and others: https://ultimateclassicrock.com/metallica-enter-sandman/
