PRESS RELEASE
Penguins to Open 2020-21 Training Camp on January 3 at PPG Paints Arena
The Pittsburgh Penguins will open training camp for the 2020-21 season on Sunday, January 3 at PPG Paints Arena.
The NHL and NHL Players Association came to an agreement on Sunday on a return-to-play plan which features a 56-game regular season schedule starting January 13.
Pittsburgh’s training camp roster will be released in the next few days and will feature a maximum of 36 skaters (forwards and defensemen), and no limit to the number of goalies permitted to be invited. Unlike in previous seasons, there will be no pre-season games during the 10-day camp prior to the start of the NHL season.
“We’re excited to be back, and Penguins players are ready to start skating next week at PPG Paints Arena,” said David Morehouse, president and CEO of the Penguins. “This great news means so much for our ownership, our players, the City of Pittsburgh, our partners and the best fans in hockey. We thank our fans for standing with us during these challenging times, and we are ready to compete for another Stanley Cup.”
As far as fans attending games at PPG Paints Arena during this season, the NHL will abide by state and local safety and arena capacity protocols when the season starts on January 13.
When fans are permitted to attend games in a limited capacity, Penguins season ticket holders will receive priority access to available tickets, likely by a lottery system. Full details will be communicated directly to season ticket holders.
The NHL is expected to announce the full 2020-21 schedule later this week.
