The Self-Driving Race Car

I mean, the tech is amazingly cool and I'd be down for a ride. But, isn't the human element necessary for a sport like this to be entertaining? Considering if all the cars can do a "perfect lap," what are they competing towards? A perfect time or maybe endurance to see which one has hardware/software failure last?

For example, drone racing has no onboard passengers and goes incredibly fast, but they are still based on input/skill.
